Stardew Valley

Let’s talk video games for a sec…

Being married to a gamer, I hear all the things about video games on a regular basis. Besides Pokemon and Harvest Moon, I’m not totally into them. That is, if you don’t count my 6 month obsession with WoW. Pretty sure unless I was at work, I was stuck to my laptop.

I’d rather bury my nose in a good (or bad) book and not have to strategize or figure things out. And let’s not get into my terrible hand eye coordination. I specifically remember my husband trying to get me to play Call of Duty and I couldn’t even walk in a straight line.

Not my proudest moment.

Anyways, similar to Harvest Moon, Stardew Valley is such a wonderful game. I’ve played it on and off since it was released and I’ve loved every moment of it. Once you really get into it, it’s unbelievably addictive. It follows a lot of the same story as Harvest Moon: move to a new/dilapidated town, rebuild and make the town prosper. On top of that, each character is absolutely wonderful. There’s a huge cast of characters that you can marry, whether you decide to marry a character of the same sex or opposite sex is completely up to you, which I thought was a wonderful thing that they added in. You can also get divorced! Of all the things to add into a game.

Even though the story is close to Harvest Moon, the spin they put on it is wonderful. If there’s one thing that I can say bad about it is that the fishing aspect of it is awful. But I’ve never been good at click fishing in games. Anyone remember Gaia and that shit show?

They’ve announced that they’re going to be adding in multi-player in first quarter of 2018. I’m looking forward to having a game that I can actually play with my husband. The way they’re setting it up is super cute too. Apparently you’re going to have up to three ‘farm hands’ that work on your land! Not to mention you don’t have to marry NPC’s when multiplayer comes out, you can actually marry the person you’re playing with. How freaking clever is that?

Multiplayer is going to make things so much easier, and so much better. I love the farming/animal aspect of the game and my husband loves the mining and fishing aspect of it. Guess who never has to fish again!

If you want to check out some game play, I highly recommend watching Cohh Carnage play. You can find his videos here on his YouTube channel. I recommend you give yourself time to watch it, though, he has about 70+ hours of game play footage but it’s absolutely wonderful.

So if you’re in a bit of a reading slump and you want a distraction or something new, go check this out. You won’t regret it.
