Down The TBR Hole #1

I know for sure that I’m not the only book worm who has this problem. You’re on Goodreads, checking out the next awesome book you’re going to read and then next thing you know, you’re eyes are drawn to the glaring three to four digit number that is your Want To Read shelf?

Maybe you click on it to check it out? Maybe you avoid it like the plague? The latter is me. That large number scares the ever living crap out of me.

BUT… there’s a solution.

Thank you to Lost In A Story for coming up with this wonderful idea to finally whittle that TBR shelf down to something more manageable. See all of her posts here.ย She also made the beautiful graphic!

Down the TBR Hole is a simple and efficient way of getting rid of all of those unneeded books.

How does it work?

  • Go to your goodreads to-read shelf.
  • Order on ascending date added.
  • Take the first 5 (or 10 if youโ€™re feeling adventurous) books
  • Read the synopses of the books
  • Decide: keep it or should it go?

Simple as that. Next thing you know, you have a reasonable Want To Read shelf!

Now… to the books!

The synopsis just doesn’t sound as good as it used to
The Judgement: Ditch

Ugh.. no more sci-fi
Judgement: Ditch

This sounds kind of cute.
The Judgement: Keep

I don’t remember adding this book… and it doesn’t sound the greatest
The Judgement: Ditch

This sounds creepy.
Judgement: Keep

I can still see myself giving this one a go. It looks really interesting
Judgement: Keep

I remember being excited for this book. Err.. not so much anymore
Judgement: Ditch

Kind of sounds like I’ll be bored to death
Judgement: Ditch

I honestly can’t see myself reading this one
Judgement: Ditch

I’m actually really sad I never got around to reading this. It looks adorable
Judgement: Keep

Alright, so there we go!

Is there any of these books that I should give another shot to? I’m only basing this off of the synopsis, so if there’s any that you recommend that I read, please let me know!

Until next time,

    1. 50 books is amazing! If I could get down to 150-200 I think I’d be happy… it’s a lot of work though xD I’m glad it’s effective, though. It’s clearly worth the effort.

  5. I already did a little purge of my Goodreads TBR but that mostly involved moving any books I actually owned onto an exclusive TBR-owned list (I’ve started buying doubles of things so it seemed like a good solution) but I might give this a go since I know I still have a lot of books I added ages ago which could make this kind of interesting!

This also reminded me that I actually own Princess of the Midnight Ball so I should probably try to read it sometime soon… Ahem.

    1. Oh that is such a good idea! I may borrow it lol
My physical book tbr probably has somewhere around 50 books or so on it. I have to clean up my bookshelves here shortly so I know for sure.

It is definitely interesting to read through the books you add to Goodreads. Some of them that I’m coming across I read the synopsis and can’t fathom why I would add that book to my tbr. lol
