Blogmas Day 19: Book Review – Brave by Jennifer L. Armentrout

BraveIvy Morgan hasn’t been feeling like herself lately. Not like anyone can blame her. After all, being held captive by a psychotic fae prince hell-bent on permanently opening the gates to the Otherworld is bound to leave some mental scars.

It’s more than that, though. Something dark and insidious is spreading throughout Ivy, more powerful than she could ever imagine… and it’s coming between her and the man she’s fallen deeply in love with, elite Order member Ren Owens.

Ren would do anything to keep Ivy safe. Anything. But when he makes a life altering choice for her, the fallout of his act has far reaching consequences that threaten to tear their lives apart. If Ivy is going to have any hope of surviving this, she must put aside the hurt and betrayal she feels, and work with not only those she loves, but with an enemy she would rather kill than ever trust. War is coming, and it soon becomes clear that what Ivy and Ren thought they knew about the Order, themselves, and even their enemies, has been nothing but a cluster of dangerous, deadly lies. Ivy knows she must be more than just brave to save those she loves–and, ultimately, to save herself.

Because behind ever evil fae Prince, there’s a Queen…

So you have Fae, a secret organization, a bad-ass female main character that kicks ass and kills Fae, a hot tattooed bad-ass love interest who is probably my most favorite love interest ever and a hilarious, Harry Potter obsessed brownie named Tink.

I am so here for this god-damned series.

Holy shit.

Like holy actual shit.

This, my good people is how you finish off a series. Seriously.

Adulting? What the fuck is that?

Eating? If it took me more than 5 minutes to throw a plate of food together, I was not eating. I’m pretty sure I ate half my weight in grapes in the last 3 days.

I did not want to put this down, but at the same time, I didn’t want it to end. Every second chapter was like “haha, you thought the last twist was the last one? JK, guess again.”

I’m pretty sure my heart stopped in multiple places while I was reading this. From both how freaking amazing it was and also how goddamn swoony Ren is. He is like the best part of all the great book boyfriends put together. How much he loved Ivy was so amazing. And UGH.. I can’t even.

Betrayal, battles, plot twists, evilness, sweetness, friendship, love, romance, this book has absolutely everything you’ll ever want in a series. This is very close to being my favorite JLA series.

And let’s just talk about the quality of the paperback for a second. I only have the first one in paperback, but the binding is sturdy, the paper is super thick and comfortable to turn the page and I’m pretty sure it’s heavy enough to hurt someone with. It’s perfect. Nothing worse than a flimsy bible page paperback. I need to get the other two in physical copy and really hope they’re the same way. And that cover. I love the under water theme. The covers are beautiful, definitely eye-candy.

If you’re looking for a book that’s bad-ass and will keep you turning the page, pick up this series. I’m serious, you won’t regret it.

Until next time,
