Wealth. Excess. Deception. It’s like nothing Ella has ever experienced, and if she’s going to survive her time in the Royal palace, she’ll need to learn to issue her own Royal decrees.

I don’t really know what I was expecting when I started this series. But it definitely wasn’t this. I pictured a fantasy novel. This.. isn’t that at all.

This series is some sort of odd soap opera. It’s good, don’t get me wrong and I really did enjoy it the more that I read but some of the things were just completely out there.

So first off, Ella. Ella is 17 years old and was stripping at the beginning of the novel. I mean, whatever.. to each there own, the stripping isn’t the part I’m confused by. I’m confused by the fact that she was using her deceased mothers picture ID to try to pass herself off as a 34 year old woman. Who in the hell is going to believe that a 17 year old girl is actually 34? That part gave me the creeps more than anything.

I also couldn’t get over how freaking MEAN people were in this series. Like assholes to top all assholes. Okay, so Reed was pretty bad. He grew on me towards the end of the series, but he was a complete and utter douche bag the entire time. Easton was just creepy and good lord can the two of them stop referring to Ella as ‘lil sis’ when they both made out with her at some point during the novel. I get they’re not related, but calling her ‘lil sis’ and then making jokes about watching her make out with a girl or coming on to her is just creepy as all fuck.

And Jordan! She taped someone to a fucking wall half naked because she looked at her boyfriend. This was beyond anything I have ever read in my life. I hated a ton of characters. It’s like the author(authors?) exaggerated every bad thing that someone could ever do.

Beyond that, I thought the story was actually half decent. The writing was easy to read and not flowery in it’s descriptions, which I appreciate. This series is definitely one those guilty pleasures. Not something I would read all the time, but I am going to enjoy it while I read it.

The worse thing though is once Reed stops being a (bordering on abusive) asshole, I actually really love him and Ella together. Although their relationship is definitely more on the insta-lovey side.

I got to say though, this series did have every single trope you would see in a soap opera. It’s like the authors were watching Days Of Our Lives while writing this. Just saying. The ending was a pretty typical soap opera ending.

Stay tuned for my review of the fourth and fifth books which follow Easton. Hopefully he continues the path of becoming less creepy. I doubt it though.
